OUR Vision
to make transport safer and more efficient
Ohmio is the result of the vision of company founder Mohammed Hikmet. An engineer by training, Mohammed launched HMI Technologies in Auckland in the early 2000s and the company has long held a strong reputation as an innovator of intelligent transport systems.
But it was the 2011 tsunami in Japan which inspired a renewed commitment to make transport better and safer.
“People were driving towards the tsunami, not knowing which way to go. That could have been prevented. Lives could have been saved.
“Every 24 seconds someone dies in the world because of a transport incident. It doesn’t have to be that way. We can make transport better. We can make it safer. We can make it better for our earth,” says Mohammed Hikmet.
And so, Ohmio was born – essentially HMI on wheels. Our team set out to work in partnership with others to develop a transport ecosystem which is smarter, safer and more efficient.
While intelligent transport systems existed, autonomous vehicles which could connect with them didn’t. So, we built them!
Along the way, as part of our innovative approach, we developed the largest 3D printed vehicle in the world at the time, the first 5G connected autonomous vehicle, and an autonomous vehicle designed to anticipate and cater for the needs of people with disabilities.
We know that achieving our vision requires more than just Ohmio. And so, we are committed to working in partnership with transport agencies, regulators, universities, local councils, large infrastructure operators like airports, property developers and other partners to develop a future proof transport system today.
